It’s shaping up to be a big day for Tony winner Kristin Chenoweth. Not only does her new solo album Some Lessons Learned hit stores, but the actress also announced she will return to Broadway as Lily Garland in an upcoming revival of On the Twentieth Century.
“It’s the perfect part,” Chenoweth told Broadway.com. “It’s a great role for any woman; it’s operatic and funny, and that seems very fitting for me.”
Oscar nominee Madeline Kahn created the role in the show’s original 1978 Broadway production and Chenoweth is excited to channel the late Tony winner. “My favorite musical theater [actress] Madeline Kahn did it [first], but I want to put my stamp on Lily and I can’t wait to take it on.” (Chenoweth even named her dog Maddie in honor of the actress!)
Before Chenoweth can return to the Great White Way, she’s busy celebrating the release of her new album. Despite battling a cold on the Lessons release date, Chenoweth said, “I’m so happy. I think this is why I’m sick! I got so excited about [the album] that I gave myself a cold. I can’t wait for people to hear what I have to say on the album…and I have a lot to say!”
